For feature development

Give a new feature more than a happy path.

Adding a feature to an existing app means deciding who can use it, what data it accepts, and what happens when something goes wrong. Work through those decisions before implementation.

Project

Team invitations in a workspace app

  • Only workspace admins can send invitations
  • Validate the email and handle existing members
  • Define expired, accepted, and revoked invitations

A starting point to adapt to your project.

A permission matrix and a testable specification

A practical way through.

Three steps · Free tools · No signup

  1. 01

Separate access rules from the interface

List roles, resources, and allowed actions. Take the matrix into your implementation brief and enforce the rules in the application itself.

  2. 02

    Specify the inputs and validation

Define the form fields, requirements, and validation messages. Make successful and unsuccessful submissions part of the same specification.

  3. 03

Describe how to verify the feature

Write acceptance criteria for the main flow and its exceptions. Use the result as a checklist while reviewing the implementation.

A few details

Before you start.

Does the permissions matrix enforce access?

No. It documents your intended policy. Your application must still enforce authorization on the server and test access for each role.

Can I plan the data model as well?

Yes. The database schema planner in the tools directory helps outline tables, fields, and relationships. Review its output before creating database migrations.

Should I send the entire specification in one prompt?

Use the full document as context, then ask for one bounded change at a time. Review the result against the relevant criteria before moving on.

Keep your project context close.
